UTILIZATION OF e-RESOURCE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF ADULT LITERACY CENTRES IN IMO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
This paper is on utilization of e-resource for sustainable development of adult literacy centres in Imo state, Nigeria. Three research questions were used to guide the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design using the proportionate sampling technique to select 409 literacy instructors who served as respondents for the study. A researcher made instrument that contained 27 questionnaire items was used for the collection of data. The collected data were answered using mean. The findings revealed that electronic instructional materials such as calculators, public address systems and radios were utilized while DVDs, computers and video players were rarely utilized. The study also revealed that engagement of non-specialist adult educators, lack of refresher programmes for instructors, poor incentives for instructor’s and poor supervision of instruction were among the challenges facing literacy centres in Imo State. Based on the findings, the study recommended that various levels of government, individuals and agencies alike should provide funds and retraining programmes for instructors for effective use of instructional materials especially the e-resources in literacy centres in Imo State.
