UTILISATION OF ELECTRONIC MEDIA IN COMMUNITY EDUCATION IN RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study examined the extent of utilisation of electronic media in community education in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions and one null hypothesis using descriptive survey research design. A sample of 370 members of Community Development Committee (CDC) was purposively drawn from a population of 2,140 members in three local government areas of the state. Data collecting instruments were researchers’ observation checklist and structured questionnaire that was face validated by three validates. The reliability index of .79 was obtained using the Cronbach Alpha method. Data were analysed using percentages, frequencies, means and standard deviation for the research questions, while the analysis of variance was used to test the null hypothesis at .05 level of significance. Findings revealed among others that limited number of electronic media were available for use in community education. It was recommended among others that sensitisation programmes on the use electronic media in the promotion of community education be organised.
