Abstract

Literature revealed that Health Education is the inculcation of knowledge possession of which can help to promote health and reduce the chances of diseases. It is concerned with such matters as personal hygiene, cleanliness, exercise of body and mind, good diet, care of skin and hair and the avoidance of hazards such as smoking, excessive drinking and abuse of drugs. The health education curricula for the current nine (9) year Basic Education contain relevant materials that could address the various challenges of our time if properly implemented in schools. The new curricular calls for re-engineering at the tertiary and other levels as well as our traditional approach to Science and Technology teaching and learning with greater emphasis on students skill acquisition for sustainable development. The paper highlighted concepts, objectives, problems, challenges and strategies geared towards sustainable development. Some recommendations were made like preparation of Pre-science teachers; implementation of activity based teaching strategies, improvisation of instructional materials among others.
