PRACTICAL ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES FOR REPOSITIONING SUPERVISION OF INSTRUCTION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOR QUALITY EDUCATION DELIVERY

Abstract

This study is a survey research carried out to ascertain the practical administrative measures for repositioning supervision of instruction in secondary schools for quality education delivery. The study was carried out in the public secondary schools in Abia State with a population of 4,365 subjects. Using a multi-stage sampling technique, a sample of 975 subjects were selected and used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire that underwent validity and reliability tests. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the null hypothesis was tested with t-test statistic. The results of the study showed, among others, that the practical administrative measures for repositioning supervision of instruction in secondary schools for quality education delivery are adequate provision of school administrators, increased funding of secondary schools, use of proper style of supervision, adequate training of supervisors, and adequate motivation of supervisors. Based on the research findings, it was recommended that more school administrators should be employed to carry out effective supervision in secondary schools, there should be increased funding of secondary schools in order to enable them have sufficient funds for supervisory activities and there should be adequate training of supervisors in the dynamics of supervision, among others.
