Abstract

The study determined the influence of coaching, mentoring and social networking on job performance of business educators in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States. The study is an empirical study. A questionnaire titled Staff Development Programme Questionnaire (SDPQ) composed of 24 items was administered on the respondents by the researchers and two research assistants. The instrument was validated by three experts.  Three research questions guided the study and were answered with mean and standard deviation. Two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. Cronbach Alpha was used to compute the reliability of the instrument which yielded 0.88 reliability index. The results revealed that all business educators agreed that coaching, mentoring, and social networking influenced their job performance to a high extent. There is no significant difference between the mean responses of male and female as well as married and single business educators in their job performances.  Based on these findings, it was recommended that deliberate efforts should be made by management, and councils of various tertiary institutions not only to ensure that these variables are sustained in schools but improved upon to promote professional commitment of business educators to their jobs in order to enhance productivity and effectiveness. There should be on-the-job training for business educators to cope with full integration of information technology into business education teaching and learning.
