Abstract

The relevance of clinical practice and the services needed to be provided by the clinician borders on psychological assessment and intervention. Thus, this paper examines the challenges faced in adopting and inventing psychological methods in Nigeria. The task of developing culture-fair instruments has been observed to contribute to impediments to the growth of psychological sciences in Nigeria. Domesticating the science and practicing of psychology have been an issue that impinges on the progress made by early clinicians in Nigeria. Amendment to earlier established rules or theories could advance the study and practice of psychology in Nigeria; thinking of rewriting or reinventing Nigerian psychology may not do so. We therefore recommend that scientific methods should be adopted rather than explanations from religious perspective.
