IMPACT OF LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE FOR SUSTAINABLE EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The study investigated the impact of learning environment on students’ academic performance for sustainable educational development. Four research questions and one null hypothesis were raised as guide to the study. The study made use of survey design. An instrument titled ILESAP was designed and used to obtain appropriate results for this study. The population of the study was made up of 18,685 SSII students from Anambra state. While Multistage sampling was used to select 52 schools out of 260 secondary schools and cluster sampling was used to select 1040 students, that is, 20 students from each school. After computation, the result revealed that there was significant influence of learning environment on the academic performance of students. It was recommended among others that government should set up an independent body of professionals to enforce the National Policy and Standards for School Environment (NPSSE). Similarly, government should provide schools with all necessary infrastructure and equipment that enhance teaching and learning.
