Abstract

This paper discussed the need for the establishment/installation of ‘Ulookpu Igbo’ or culture room in CUDIMAC University of Nigeria, Nsukka to house relevant Igbo artifacts and objects needed as instructional materials for the teaching and learning of Igbo language. Such Igbo art facts and objects if installed will help some departments at both higher and post-primary institutions where Igbo language is taught to do better and sustain the culture of Igbo race. CUDIMAC being a mother-umbrella centre for the development of instructional materials required for teaching various subjects and courses at secondary and higher institution levels of education is supposed to have a section in the centre where Igbo objects/artifacts should be preserved for teaching and learning just as other subject areas have their respective instructional materials in the centre (CUDIMAC). Besides being needed as a resource room, ‘Ulookpu Igbo’ could also promote the preservation of the cultural heritage of Igbo race and be a source of pride and revenue generation for CUDIMAC and University of Nigeria, Nsukka at large if established. The researcher recommends that: Ulookpu Igbo be established in CUDIMAC, fund be raised for the purpose; students who study Igbo language be encouraged to appreciate the importance of ‘Ulookpu Igbo’ in learning, Igbo people appreciate their cultural heritage among others.
