Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of social networks on students’ academic achievement in economics. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design. The sample consisted of 378 SS2 Economics students in Onitsha Education Zone of Anambra state. Economics Achievement Test (EAT) and Students’ Social Network Usage Inventory (SSNUI) developed by the researchers were used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and ANOVA. The results show that facebook has influence on students’ achievement in Economics. The findings also show that whatsapp has influence on students’ achievement in Economics. It was recommended among others that teachers should try and engage their students on academic activities on social media platforms. This will make students spend more time on educational activities when on social media.
