Abstract

This study sought to determine the effect of Futures-Wheel instructional strategy on students’ achievement and interest in senior secondary school Economics in Enugu State, Nigeria. Quasi-experimental research design was adopted for the study. Sample for the study consisted of 1,000 students selected using the Multi-stage sampling technique. Instruments for data collection consisted of Economics Students’ Achievement Test (ECOSAT) and Economics Students’ Interest Inventory Scale (ECOSIIS). Both instruments were appropriately validated and tested for reliability. Reliability co-efficient of 0.67 and 0.95 were obtained respectively for the two instruments. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was employed in testing the null hypotheses at 0.005 level of significance. The findings of the study showed among other things that Futures-Wheel instructional strategy improved significantly students’ achievement and interest in senior secondary school Economics. It was therefore concluded that Futures-Wheel instructional strategy could be effective in enhancing students’ achievement and interest in Senior Secondary School Economics.
